This summer, for the first time in a long time, I have been able to get to some books that I wanted to read - some for pleasure - some for research - I have come across some that I have really enjoyed. When my summer is officially over on the 15th of August and classes start up I will most likely post the ones I have completed on here.
The book I am currently reading (about half way through) is Heaven is a Playground by Rick Telander and it is seriously one of my favorites from this summer. At the root it is about basketball and the grim realities of living in the Brooklyn projects in the 1970’s but the character studies are really just amazing and you find yourself attached to so many of them very early on. I have a feeling I will read it more than once. It has given me a lot of ideas in terms of my thesis work which will be my primary focus this year as well as teaching.
